Moody and William Farewell were young men in 1804 when the events at their trading post led to the tragic loss of HMS Speedy. Their family history is known to some degree and represents a snapshot of the tragic upheaval of the War of Independence and its aftermath. They were Loyalists, like many of their contemporaries, folks who wanted no fight, but were caught up in the battles and hatreds nonetheless.
