Brighton Township was not created during the original surveys in the 1790s like our neighbours, Murray and Cramahe Townships. In fact, Brighton Township was not created until legislation was passed in 1851, taking the east part of Cramahe, the west part of Murray along with Presqu'ile Point, to make up the new township. This was a very unusual procedure which suggests that there were very good reasons for doing it. General study of local history had not revealed these reasons to The History Guy so he decided to find out, resulting in story of The Birth of Brighton Township. Check it out for yourself.
