Rural Roots was a great success! Many pictures and stories of farming over the years came to light during the months leading up to the events and some appeared on the screen during the show or on the tables during the Open House. Farming has been integral to the lives of so many people of this region and our farming heritage goes back to the first settlers, the years of wheat mining and then the change to beef and dairy in the 1870s. There is lots to look at here. The show on Saturday night was hindered a bit by the absence of RandR, due to a tragic death in the family, but they were there on Sunday afternoon, in fine form. There was a good crowd and all went away satisfied at hearing some delightful music and absorbing some fascinating history. The Open House on March 3rd was well attended and the displays were terrific. The BDA had a very active corner with videos and pictures and lots of excitement from the community. All aspects of farming were represented from the blacksmith to the farm machinery collector. We also had folks from as far away as near Ottawa who came to make contact with The History Guy and the BDA after many email communications over the years. Great to put a face to the email address!! Another great Brighton History Week!
