Ontario Genealogy Society, Quinte Branch - September 20, 2025 - Murray Canal The Ontario Genealogy Society, Quinte Branch will host The History Guy of Brighton as guest speaker at their meeting on September 20, 2025. The topic will be A History of the Murray Canal.
United Empire Loyalists, Kawartha Branch - September 21, 2025 - George Gibson's Schooner The Kawartha Branch, UEL, will host historian Dan Buchanan as guest speaker for their meeting on September 21, 2025 at Activity Haven Seniors Centre, 180 Barnardo Ave., Peterborough, at 2:00 pm. The topic will be "George Gibson's Schooner", a story about the only direct military action to take place in Presqu'ile Bay during the War of 1812. The History Guy of Brighton will describe the conditions leading up to the summer of 1814 which led to George Gibson and his sons building a sizeable schooner on the shore of Presqu'ile Bay, under contract with the Commissariat at Kingtson. The American side was watching and sent a raiding party to destroy the ship before it could be launched. This story has never been told in a true historical fashion, based on documents - until now. Presqu'ile: What Became of the Land, Talk #2 - October 7, 2025 - Brighton Public Library - 6:30 pm The History Guy of Brighton will present the second part of his presentation about Susan Brose's book "Presqu'ile: What Became of the Land". Following Part 1 on February 27, 2025, which dealt with the south shore, the second part will address cottages along the north shore of Presqu'ile Point, mostly on Bayshore Drive. The presentation on this night will not deal with each cottage because there are simply too many, but it will providing insights into trends and changes to properties on Bayshore as well as some examples of certain families and cottages, and how they changed over time. There will be an expanded question period in the second part of the event, so that cottagers or interested parties can ask questions or tell stories. The author, Susan Brose, will be in attendance to answer questions. Come prepared to take part - you will have time to speak! Ganaraska Valley Probus Club - October 9, 2025 - Murder in the Family The Ganaraska Valley Probus Club will host historian Dan Buchanan as guest speaker for their meeting on October 9, 2025 at the Port Hope Masonic Lodge. The topic will be "Murder in the Family", the story of Brighton's notorious crime in 1858 which resulted in the only hanging to take place in Northumberland County.

Probus Club of Northumberland - October 23, 2025 - History of the Murray Canal The Probus Club of Northumberland will host historian Dan Buchanan as guest speaker for their meeting on October 23, 2025 at the Lion's Centre, Elgin St., Cobourg. The topic will be "A History of the Murray Canal", based on the author's fourth book by that name that was released in April of 2024.
Codrington Christmas Market - November 2, 2025 - Codrington Community Centre Historian Dan Buchanan will be a vendor at the much-anticipated "Codrington Christmas Market" to be held on November 2, 2025 at the Codrington Community Centre and the Codrington Farmers' Market.
