Where can you hear the History Guy speak?

The History Guy participates in many speaking events where he is guest speaker for a club meeting. He also acts as a vendor at farmers' markets in the area where his books are for sale directly to the public and where considerable schmoozing can be done. Christmas markets have grown in number and importance and you can find this kind of event on the list later in the year. 
Following is a list of events where you might see the History Guy and maybe buy a book, for the next few months.
Note: This list is updated routinely - as the History Guy gets to it. 

The Batteau Railway Book Launch - July 16, 2026

The new book will be on sale for the first time at the Brighton Public Library, Thursday, July 16, 2026 at 6:30 pm. The folks from Lighthouse Books will have plenty of copies for sale and the author will be ready to sign your copy and say thank you. Complementary copies of the book will be presented to the Brighton Public Library as well as a few individuals who contributed to the creation of the book. Please note that this is not a speaking event, primarily book selling and signing. Also, online sources for purchasing the book will be available at some point AFTER the Book Launch is complete.

Lighthouse Books - July 17, 2026 - 10 am to noon

Lighthouse Books, 65 Main St., Brighton, will host The History Guy of Brighton from 10 am to noon on Friday, July 17, 2026, the morning after the launch of his fifth book The Batteau Railway. Come by the book store, buy a book and have the author sign it. Stay for a visit if you like. Hope to see you there.

Cobourg Artisan Market - July 18, 2026

The History Guy of Brighton will be a vendor at the Cobourg Artisan Market on July 18, 2026. Great News!! His new book, The Batteau Railway will be available for sale at this market, after the book launch on the Thursday night in Brighton. Get your copy of this new book and have the author sign it as well. 

BACC Meet the Author - Friday, July 24, 2026

The Brighton Arts and Culture Council will host The History Guy for a "Meet the Author" event from 1 pm to 4 pm, Friday, July 24, 2026. Come to the Presqu'ile Waddling Arts Centre at 23 Main St., Brighton to meet the author, buy a copy of the author's new book The Batteau Railway and have it signed by the author. Stop to visit if you like. Hope to see you there.

Codrington Market - Christmas in July - July 26, 2026

Codrington Farmers' Market will hold their "Christmas in July" event on Sunday, July 26, 2026. The History Guy of Brighton will be a vendor at Codrington market for the first time since his new book "The Batteau Railway" was released. Come to the market between 10 am and 1 pm, buy a copy of the new book and have the author sign it. See you are the market!

Art in the Park, Brighton - Saturday, August 1, 2026

Art in the Park is here again for 2026, provided by the Brighton Arts and Culture Council. It will be held on Saturday, August 1, 2026 in Memorial Park in Brighton, from 9:30 am to 3 pm. Many of Brighton's talented artists will present their work for your enjoyment and for sale. The History Guy of Brighton will have his newest book for sale, The Batteau Railway, so be sure to come by and get your copy.  See the poster below.

Cobourg Artisan Market - August 15, 2026

The History Guy of Brighton will be a vendor at the Cobourg Artisan Market on August 15, 2026. Dan now has five history books for sale, including the most recent, The Batteau Railway which was launched July 16th at the Brighton Public Library. See you at the market!

Ameliasburgh Heritage Village - Sept. 12, 2026

The Ameliasburgh Heritage Village will host The History Guy of Brighton on September 12, 2026 at 6:30 pm to tell the story of his new book The Batteau Railway. The event will be held at the village of Ameliasburgh, in the hall of the old church on the grounds of the Ameliasburgh Heritage Museum, entrance around back. The new book will be on sale for $25.00 and the author will be there to sign your copy. His other books will be available as well. Come on by and hear the story!

Brighton Applefest Steet Fair - Saturday, Sept. 26, 2026

Applefest is back for another year with the Street Fair on Saturday, September 26, 2026. The History Guy of Brighton will be a vendor on the street from 10 am to 4 pm. The new book The Batteau Railway will be available in quantity and should be a big seller. See you on Main Street in Brighton for Applefest 2026!

Retired Women Teachers, Trenton - October 1, 2026

The Retired Women Teachers of Ontario, Trenton Branch, will host the History Guy of Brighton at their meeting on October 1, 2026 at Stirling Lions Club, 1 pm. The history talk will be based on the author's new book The Batteau Railway which was released in July 2026. The Batteau Railway will be available for sale at this event for $25.00. Ask the author about his other books as well.

Aspira Island Park, Campbellford - October 10, 2026

Aspira Island Park Retirement Residence in Campbellford will host The History Guy of Brighton to tell the story of his new book, The Batteau Railway, on October 10, 2026. 

Brighton Public Library - October 15, 2026

The Brighton Public Library will host The History Guy of Brighton for a history talk on October 15, 2026 at 6:30 pm. On this night, Dan will refresh the story of Dance Hall Daze which tells the story of the various dance halls that were active in the Brighton area for a few decades up to the 1960s. In those days, people loved to go to their local dance floor and dance the night away. There were different places for different tastes and some were not where you wanted your daughters to go. Come and relive the Dance Hall Daze.  

Cobourg & District Historical Society - October 27, 2026

The History Guy of Brighton will be guest speaker at the October 27 meeting of the Cobourg and District Historical Society held in Victoria Hall in Cobourg, starting at 7:30 pm. Dan will tell the story of his new book, The Batteau Railway which is the story of the small, wooden railway system built by Asa Weller across the Quinte portage in 1793 and operated there until the early 1820s when the portage became obsolete. The new book will be for sale at this event, at $25.00 each, cash or card, with a signature. 

Holly Jolly Market, Picton - November 20, 21 & 22

The Holly Jolly Market is back for 2026 with a three-day weekend packed with all sorts of vendors and products that will make excellent Christmas presents. The History Guy of Brighton will be there all three days of the weekend with his five books for sale, including the most recent book The Batteau Railway which came out in July. See you at the market!

OAS, Peterborough Branch - November 24, 2026

The Peterborough Branch of the Ontario Archaeology Society will host Dan Buchanan, the History Guy of Brighton, as guest speaker for a virtual meeting on November 24, 2026. The story will be based on the author's recent book, The Batteau Railway which was launched July 16, 2026.
