Farewell Family History

Moody and William Farewell were young men in 1804 when the events at their trading post led to the tragic loss of HMS Speedy. Their family history is known to some degree and represents a snapshot of the tragic upheaval of the War of Independence and its aftermath. They were Loyalists, like many of their contemporaries, folks who wanted no fight, but were caught up in the battles and hatreds nonetheless. Here is a brief outline of the events around their mother, Sarah Bennett, and her struggle to give her children a chance in the new colony of Upper Canada, and the path that brought William and Moody to the trading post on Lake Scugog in 1804.
